I vote for McLeanites. I'm pretty sure that's what well called ourselves. Listen, we have a big question that none of us can answer, maybe you can Carol. You know we lived behind Salona Village shopping center (and Amy's working on all those stores in the correct order), well for the life of us (mom included), we/she can't remember where she got her hair done. She had/has short hair, so we know she had to have it "done." Do you know of any beauty parlors that were in McLean from 1961-1976 when we lived there? I think there was one near Pizza Supreme, but no one else agrees with me. Help us please.
Love the site!
Nancy -
You are absolutely CORRECT!!! I remember getting my hair done there for dances, prom, new year's ever parties, etc. I don't remember its name, but it was around the corner tot he right of Safeway and next to, or about next to Pizza Supreme. I hate to say it, but I know that I have pics from a couple of occasions when I had my hair done there. My hair got longer and longer all through HS, so by Senior year, it was pretty long and I had it put up for dances. Before that, my Mom took me to the Beauty School in Falls Church - I think it in an old house newar the corner of Rt 7 and Lee Hwy - the road that the State Theater was on, behind the music/reoord store. But As I got older...she took me there as a child, and wanted it put up, I went to the one you're talking about...I really need to find my old McLean phone book!!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! Keep coming back...I went to Classmantes and started leaving messages for my class members....Did Amy grad in 1970? We had an Amy Reid and I thought it was your sister, but I got mixed up somewhere along the way and thought that she said she did not grad in '70.
I just got a call from another LHS grad who said that she rmembered the Beauty Shop and that that she and her mother both went there to have their hair cut. So, here's another confirmation that the shop existed!! Too bad, she did not remember the name either.
Yes, that was me in 1970!
Amy Reid.
Amy,
That's what I thought. I remember you, but as the years pass, we're never quite sure if our memories are correct anymore.
Glad to hear from you. I apprecaite the comments on the blog.
Let me know if there's something that you want to talk about - remember, this is about Memories - mine and YOURS!! Write about what you want and I'll comment and maybe others will too.
Thanks!!
